Course Description

This 2-day course provides the foundations of both a Scrum Master and a Scrum Product Owner.

Scrum Masters are facilitators who ensure that the Scrum Team is provided with an environment conducive to success, and the Product Owner is responsible for ensuring clear communication of product functionality to the Scrum Team. This course will teach you how to be successful in both roles.

Successful candidates will be awarded the Scrum Master Certified (SMC™) certification and the Scrum Product Owner Certified (SPOC™) certification by SCRUMstudy after successfully completing this course and passing the online proctored certification exams.

Course Overview

Agile and Scrum Overview

We’ll discuss the history of Agile and Scrum, why they came to be, and dive into the Agile Philosophy.

Scrum Framework

We’ll introduce the Scrum Process, and the roles involved in Scrum. We’ll discuss how Scrum treats time, and how it improves the quality of the resulting product by defining what it means to be done.

Planning in Scrum

A common misconception is that there is no planning in Scrum, this is incorrect, we will show that planning in an ongoing effort in Scrum. We’ll explain the purpose of Sprint Planning, Sprint Retrospectives, Daily Scrums (Stand-Ups), how to to conduct release planning, and finally Sprint and Project Retrospectives

The Role of the Product Owner

We’ll present the qualities of an effective Product Owner, and the role they take as the voice of the customer


We’ll discuss the purpose of Personas and how spending the time creating them leads to designing and delivering effective software for your customers.

User Stories and Product Backlog

We’ll discuss User Stories, how to create them and how they form the Product Backlog

The Role of the Scrum Master

We’ll present the qualities of an effective Scrum Master, discuss servant-leadership and how it promotes the optimal functioning of a Scrum Team, we’ll also present methods of transitioning into a Scrum Master role.

Practical Applications

There will be a classroom exercise throughout the duration of the course, which will apply the concepts being learned, by producing personas, a product vision, and a backlog, and then working through 2 sprints to deliver an end product.

You will understand the Scrum process and use this knowledge to build better products.

The Scrum Roles

You will understand the 3 main roles of Scrum. The Scrum Master, the Product Owner, and the Scrum Team. Build a Scrum team from the ground up using this knowledge.

The Scrum Artifacts

You will understand the difference types of artifacts in Scrum, why they’re important, and when and how to use them.

Transitioning to Scrum

You will learn how to transition your team from a waterfall team to a Scrum team, and how to map common waterfall roles into Scrum roles.
